Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has dared the Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party to sue him if he is innocent of some of the corrupt activities leveled against him.

Wike, whose relationship with the leadership remains frosty made this known during the flag-off of the state-level campaign of the party at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Saturday, November 19.

Wike and his allies have been at loggerheads with the leadership of the party over Ayu's insistence not to resign from his position as National Chairman.

The claim it violates the party’s constitution for the national chairman to come from the same region as the presidential candidate.

Ayu is from Benue in the north-central, while Atiku Abubakar, the PDP standard bearer, hails from Adamawa in Nigeria’s north-east.

Wike also alleged that Ayu received N1billion from a presidential aspirant and another N100million from a governor to do a project already paid for by the party, according to Daily Post.

But Ayu denied both claims.

However, at the flag-off, Wike said: “Nobody will listen to a campaign led by a corrupt man. Ayu is corrupt. Rivers people are hurt. Ayu, you are fighting corruption, how do you fight corruption? I said you took N1bn. I told you, you took the money we realised from the primaries. Ayu sue me!

“You cannot fight Rivers State and go free.

“Ayu, you cannot lead me or Rivers State to any campaign, because you are very corrupt.”
