PDP moves to suspend Dino Melaye; asks Atiku and Okowa to dissociate themselves from ex-senator

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has moved to suspend Senator Dino Melaye from the party.

The PDP elders in the state led by Ibrahim Dansofo, described the former governorship candidate as a liability to the party as they urged the local executive committee in Ijumu to initiate immediate suspension proceedings against Melaye.

According to them, the latest move would emphasize restoring the party's integrity and focusing on viable leadership.

The move by the party in the state comes after Dino Melaye accused the acting national chairman of the PDP, Iliya Damagum, Samuel Anyanwu and Umar Bature of destroying the party. Melaye claimed that the three chieftains had irredeemably destroyed PDP.

Reacting to Melaye's remarks, the party elders said the former Senator's political ambition have crumbled to the point he can no longer secure a local councillor position.

The Dansofo-led elders characterized Melaye as a liability, suggesting that his continued association with the party serves only to negotiate personal gain with the ruling party rather than contribute positively to the PDP.

“Senator Melaye has become a burden to the party.

“His accusations against the current leadership are hypocritical, as he himself was granted a governorship ticket despite the party’s awareness of his inability to win even a primary election,” Dansofo said.

The party further called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reevaluate their support for Melaye, urging them to distance themselves from someone they described as a “bondage” and a “big-time liability” for the party.
