PDP blames perceived internal crisis on APC’s bid to destroy opposition

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday alleged that the desire of some forces in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to destroy opposition political parties and democracy in Nigeria was a plot specifically to destabilise the PDP.

A top source explained that the APC, having seen the crisis generated by the revalidation of its membership, wants to pull down the house due to its raging internal crisis.

Also, the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has told journalists who met him in his office that “as you can see, there is no crisis in the PDP. It is just a plot of external forces to cause crisis or shout wolf when indeed there is no crisis.

“Our antagonists, who want the party to disintegrate since we lost the two presidential elections in 2015 and 2019, are worried how we manage to pull resource together and keep the party afloat. But by the grace of God, we shall surmount all these and save Nigeria from the inglorious administration of the APC.”

Also some PDP leaders who spoke to someone selected journalists further admitted that there were issues within the party, but had been resolved.

Citing example of the plot to cause crisis in the PDP, a top member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) disclosed that it was what the APC did in 2018 after the presidential campaign in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, that misled one of its former NWC member to work against the leadership of the opposition party.

According to the source, “The APC was jittery on the successful conduct of the PDP at Port Harcourt convention, which led them to plot and snatched our Vice National Chairman for the Northeast, Alhaji Babayo Gamawa. The APC did what it did because they thought he could cause crisis in the PDP. “

“The former Northeast NWC member, however, failed in its assignment as some NWC members of the PDP who he met to cause trouble in the party rejected his plan to cause crisis in the party.”

Also, the source alleged that some former governors from some Southern states who they wanted to use in the plot to destabilise PDP, including wooing leaders to dump the PDP, rejected the idea when the APC reached out to them.

The party source explained that the APC is worried that the PDP, despite being in opposition, there is no crisis within the party.

He alleged that the APC is doling out money to members of the PDP in the South-west region to join the APC for the purposes of causing crisis.

The source cited the case of the former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode, who is a vocal member of the PDP, but the APC wants him to defect to it, but he has since rejected the plot.

“In fact, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, described himself as a solid member of the PDP, and that nothing will make him to join the APC.

“It was against this move that he said: ‘Anyone who leaves the PDP for the APC is driven by covetousness,” he stated.

The source quoted Fayose as saying then that: “I’m over 60 years. What do I want to become? I was a governor at 42. All the opportunities anybody could offer, PDP offered them to me.

“I will not go to APC. What is missing? Some people chose to be dishonourable, but not me.”
