Peter Okoye, one half of legendary Nigerian music duo P-Square, has made a stunning revelation about how close the group came to working with the late King of Pop Michael Jackson.

Speaking in a recent interview, Peter recounted the moment he received an unexpected phone call that left him in disbelief.

He disclosed that Janet Jackson personally directed her brother Jermaine to reach out to the duo after watching the video for their hit song, 'Personally.'

"I got a phone call from an individual. He said, 'Hey, my name is Jermaine Jackson.' I said, 'OK.' He was like, 'Does the name rings a bell?' I asked, 'Like the Jackson family? Yeah, right," he recalled.

Sensing the scepticism on the other end of the line, Jermaine offered to verify his identity in the most direct way possible.

"He said, 'I know you don't believe me. Can I call you on video?' He called and I was like, 'Oh my God, that's him,' Peter said.

Jermaine then explained how the contact came about. Their 'Personally' video had only been out for two days but had already amassed 1.7 million views, with fans tagging the Jackson family and drawing their attention to the African duo's work.

"He said, 'Listen, I just watched you guys. The video just came out two days ago and it was already at 1.7 million views. As soon as it came out, people started tagging them and the whole family saw it. It was Janet that said, hey, call these guys, contact them,'" Peter recounted.

According to Peter, Akon, who had become the last artiste to record with Michael Jackson on the track 'Hold My Hand', had already begun laying the groundwork for a P-Square and Michael Jackson collaboration, with a specific concept in mind.

"Akon has already told us when they're going to shoot the video. He wants us to appear on the video at the same time. Probably try and do something because Akon has written like seven songs for him. There's one he felt like he wanted to turn into Afrobeat.

"So we were already about to get to that, and then it happened," Peter said, referring to Michael Jackson's death on June 25, 2009.

According to him, such a collaboration would have bridged the gap between the King of Pop and Africa's biggest music duo at the height of both their powers.

"It was a sad time. But hey, his legacy still lives," Peter said.

“Janet Jackson watched P Square’s “Personally” video with her family and immediately asked Jermaine Jackson to reach out to us. Akon almost got us on a song with Michael Jackson but unfortunately he died.”
