Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has emphasised that during kidnapping incidents, the government’s top priority is to rescue victims alive. He warned that rushing to use lethal force could endanger hostages further.
On The Morayo Show, Bwala explained, "In hostage cases, the primary responsibility of the government is to rescue them alive. Using lethal force might risk their lives."
He acknowledged that public pressure often urges immediate military action but insists authorities must carefully consider every decision to avoid worsening the situation. Discussing scenarios where kidnappers start killing captives, Bwala stated, “If one person is killed, alternative measures should be employed."
He questioned those calling for immediate military strikes, asking, “Should the government start bombing everywhere because one person was beheaded, risking the lives of others? What do you suggest?"
Bwala concluded that security agencies face a tough balancing act between rescuing victims and responding decisively to kidnappers.
