Over $1bn looted funds from past administrations have been recovered by Buhari - Malami

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari's administration has given back to the country one billion dollars in looted funds since coming to power in 2015.

Malami made this known while briefing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, November 23.

According to Malami, the recovered money have been redirected into various sectors of the economy, which includes poverty alleviation.

He further explained that the government was worried about issues of budget padding, adding that necessary measures were being explored to deal with it.

Malami also revealed that FEC approved a new anti-corruption strategy document to strengthen the anti-graft fight in the country.
