President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have assured youths that the outcomes of the first ever Progressives Youth Conference organised by APC Youths, which held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, would be implemented.

The conference noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) stands the opportunity to mainstream well over 10,000 youths in politics and government by fixing the age of councillorship candidates to 30 years and below and the age of chairmanship candidates of local governments to 40 years and below.

It mandated the appointment of at least one youth representative of not more than 40 years to the board and management team of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in both the Federal and State Governments.
It will also ensure that with the exception of the position of chairman and deputies, persons of not more than 40 years should deputise at every other party position at all levels – national, state, local government, and ward.

This was disclosed in a communiqué signed by The Youth Representative in the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caretaker Committee, Ismail Ahmed.

Also, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, canvassed a deliberate and effective system of leadership recruitment of youths in the country.

He enjoined the party to identify competent youths at home and in the Diaspora to achieve the objective.

Gbajabiamila said this was the practice all over the world, especially in countries where democracy had developed over the years.

According to him, “For the APC and the progressive movement to survive in Nigeria, we must commit ourselves to a deliberate and effective system of leadership recruitment to identify and prepare people – young people especially, to occupy the important offices of party and government.”
