Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has called for a declaration of a state of emergency in the country following yet another
Obi's call was made in a post on X after eight personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, were killed in Edo State, as well as five soldiers and 58 civilians feared dead in Borno State over the weekend.
According to him, the recent killings show the country is a step away from a full-blown security emergency.
While condoling the families, Obi charged the government to arrest the killers and bring them to justice quickly.
“When over 100 Nigerians are killed in a single weekend, our casualty figures rival those of countries officially at war. This is no longer business as usual.
“It is time to declare a national war on insecurity — to mobilise every resource, every agency, every state, and to suspend all distractions while we begin the process of reclaiming our nation from lawlessness,” he wrote.
