Men dressed as police officers have caused chaos in Modakeke, a town in Osun State, when they dispersed a crowd of voters by firing tear gas in the ongoing governorship election in the state.

According to a voice narrative in a video from the incident, the uniformed men carted away election materials after dispersing the crowd.

The voice also stated that the use of tear gas was unwarranted because there was no fight or chaos at the polling unit before the officers arrived.

The narrator also revealed that NYSC members and INEC officials at the polling unit took to their heels as soon as the gun-wielding uniformed men unleashed force.

Meanwhile, accreditation for voters has commenced across polling units in Osun State where voting for the 2026 governorship election is taking place.

Materials for the election were ferried to the polling units in all local governments of the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of the day.

Most of the materials are being watched by security agencies who are also strategically positioned across the state to ensure a smooth voting process.

On Friday, INEC announced that the final figures of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected by registered voters across the State.

Out of the total of 2,339,233 registered voters in the State, 1,906,390 PVCs, representing 81.50 per cent, have been collected. The remaining 432,843 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, have been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in line with the Commission’s established practice.

Similarly, it should be noted that some persons with damaged, defaced, or lost PVCs applied for replacement of their cards. A total of 6,101 among those who applied printed downloadable copies of their PVCs.
