Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has extended his heartfelt condolences to teammates Samuel Chukwueze and Wilfred Ndidi following the recent passing of their parents.
On January 7, news emerged that Ndidi’s father, Sunday Ndidi, had passed away after being hit by a car in the town of Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State.
The Nigeria Football Federation issued a statement afterwards, offering their condolences to the Super Eagles star.
While the Nigerian football community was still reeling from this loss, news broke on Thursday that Chukwueze had also lost his mother after a brief illness.
Mrs Chukwueze died in the early hours of Thursday, according to a statement by the NSC.
Both players shared exceptionally close bonds with their parents.
Ndidi famously performed an Nwankwo Kanu-style celebration to honour his father during the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Similarly, Chukwueze has long featured a photo of his mother as his Instagram profile picture and has partnered with her on various charitable initiatives.
Given these deep connections, both players are undoubtedly going through a period of profound grief.
As tributes pour in from across the globe, Osimhen is the latest to offer his support publicly.
Taking to social media to stand in solidarity with his “brothers,” the Galatasaray star shared a touching message.
“Dear brothers, Chukwueze and Ndidi, may God grant your parents eternal peace and give you the strength and comfort needed during this difficult time,” Osimhen wrote.
President Bola Tinubu, alongside the Nigeria Football Federation and the National Sports Commission, expressed deepest sympathies to the players following the passing of their parents.
Reflecting on the emotional toll these losses have taken on the national team players, President Tinubu assured the grieving families of his personal support and spiritual solidarity.
“I mourn with them, and I am with them in prayers during this difficult time,” the President added.
The President offered a prayer for the repose of the soul of the departed, asking that “God Almighty will grant the departed eternal rest.”
Chukwueze, who featured for the Super Eagles at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria finished third, has yet to issue a public statement on the loss.
