Osimhen nets season-high 33rd goal in Gala win

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has set a new benchmark for his number of goals in a season after netting his 32nd and 33rd goals of the 2024/25 campaign in the Turkish club’s 4-1 win against Sivasspor on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

His previous record stood at 31 from his title-winning 2022/23 season with Napoli.

On loan from Napoli, Osimhen has been the driving force behind Galatasaray’s title charge this season as Saturday’s win extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points, at least until their closest challengers Fenerbahce play on Sunday (today).

The 26-year-old got his first of the game in the 15th minute to make it 2-0. He fired home a rebound after a strike from his teammate hit the post and headed in his direction.

He extended their lead in the 31st minute with another classic finish inside the box, slotting the ball into the top left corner of the post after receiving a cross.

Osimhen could have scored a hat-trick in the game but he was denied by the VAR two minutes after the restart.

Despite scoring all the goals before halftime, Gala saw off their visitors in the second half as they edge closer to their 25th league title. They are also in the Turkish Cup final where they will meet Trabzonspor on Wednesday, May 14.

Meanwhile, transfer speculations around Osimhen are heightened as he nears the end of his loan spell at Galatasaray.

The Turkish club are reportedly devising a bold financial strategy to sign the player for €60m, in what would be one of the most ambitious transfers in Super Lig history.

But the real intrigue lies in their long-term plan — selling the prolific forward to the Saudi Pro League within two years for a fee in the region of €100m, according to Tgrt Haber.

Other suitors like Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester United continue to monitor the situation.
