Opposition unhappy Adeleke thanked Tinubu after Osun election win - Shehu Sani

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, said members of the opposition party are unhappy that Governor Ademola Adeleke thanked President Bola Tinubu after winning the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

MyNigeria reported that shortly after he was declared winner of the election held on August 15, 2026, Adeleke issued a press statement appreciating President Tinubu for the success of the election.

Reacting, Sani stated that opposition members expected a confrontational stance from Adeleke against the President.

He shared on X, "Most members of the opposition are not happy with Governor Adeleke for ‘thanking’ President Tinubu for his electoral victory. They want the Governor to be confrontational. If the President had not been helpful in securing his mandate and preventing any attempt to temper with it, the Governor wouldn’t have been so appreciative. Electoral victory is a product of two components; Winning the votes and securing the Collation and victory of the vote: There are many politicians today who lost elections because of the LATTER."

Meanwhile, Adeleke has said he's going to support the re-election bid of President Tinubu because he's a Yoruba man.

He also stated that Tinubu deserves support to enable him to develop the reforms his administration has started.

Adeleke said this during a Channels TV interview shortly after he was declared winner of Saturday's governorship election in Osun.

MyNigeria reported that Adeleke thanked Tinubu for the success of the election, leaving many wondering what role the President played in ensuring his victory.

When asked if he had an agreement with the President, Adeleke said, "I never reach an agreement with President Tinubu. My support is just based on he is a Yoruba man and his from South West. And I believe that all the federal roads that he has started, I want to encourage him not to forget South West too, because all our federal roads link to other regions.

"I felt that since a Yoruba man has won the first term, we should give him another chance to develop his reform."

Asked if he would go all out for Tinubu in 2027, he said, "Big time."

He also stated that in his support for Tinubu, he won't mind working with those he defeated at the Osun State governorship election because he would be doing it for the President.
