One dead, 150 houses ruined by flood in Jigawa

A man has reportedly lost his life in Samamiya village in Birnin-Kudu local government area of Jigawa State.

According to reports, the father of two was said to have been swept away by flood, which was caused by several weeks of downpour in the area.

In the Malamawan Gangara village, the flood has also rendered several people homeless as their mud houses had collapsed

Farmlands at Babaldu were also completely destroyed by the flood.

An estimated 150 houses were destroyed at Malamawa Gangara village but the residents expressed gratitude to God for sparing their lives.

A resident Ali Muhammad said the area had never experienced such disaster since August 2007 when a similar flood swept away houses and farmlands.

He said this year was the worst in the entire area.

Chairman of Birnin Kudu council Wada Faka confirmed the incident. He said the council was assessing the disaster while assuring residents that necessary support would be made to the victims.
