The Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District of Ondo State, Nicholas Tofowomo, has said community policing would go a long way in curbing the insecurity in the country.

To this end, the federal lawmaker charged the new Commissioner of Police, Mr Oyeyemi Oyediran, to embrace community policing for better performance in the state.

Tofowomo gave the charge in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Olumide Akinrilola, on Tuesday.

The senator commended the CP for dismantling some police checkpoints along the Shagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway which has been causing traffic jams and delay for motorists plying the road.

He said, “May I advise him (the CP) to embrace community policing. It will be a good setting for the new CP to encourage and embrace community policing in Ondo State. “I congratulate the new CP for changing the image of policing in Ondo state. The new CP has given a good image to the police in Ondo State following the removal of roadblocks along the Shagamu-Ore-Benin highway which has continued to cause traffic jams and untold pains to commuters and motorists plying the road.”

“Though I am yet to meet with the CP Oyeyemi but he has started on a good note by implementing the removal of the unscrupulous police checkpoints which have been ordered for removal by the Inspector-General of Police for a very long time.”
