The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed the rumours currently circulating in some parts of Akure and on social media, alleging a bandit invasion of the metropolis.
The command assured residents, particularly parents, students, school authorities and the general public, that there is no credible intelligence or reported incident indicating the presence or invasion of bandits in Akure. It said that the comprehensive security assessments and intelligence-gathering efforts it conducted have not revealed any threat that would warrant panic or disruption of normal activities.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, urged parents and guardians not to be alarmed by unverified information that could create unnecessary fear and anxiety. Students were encouraged to continue their academic activities without apprehension, as adequate security measures have been put in place across the state to guarantee the safety of lives and property.
The command warned individuals against the deliberate spread of false information that could cause public disorder, noting that anyone found responsible for disseminating misinformation intended to incite panic will be investigated and dealt with in accordance with the law.
Residents were advised to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through established emergency channels.
The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and urged the public to rely only on verified information from official sources.
