Onanuga accuses PDP chairman Turaki of treason for seeking Trump invasion

Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has accused the factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tunami Turaki, of committing high treason.

This was after Turaki called on U.S President Donald Trump to not only come to Nigeria's rescue concerning Christian genocide but also to save the country's democracy.

Turaki made the appeal on Tuesday after his faction and another faction of the PDP engaged in violent clashes to seize control of the party's national headquarters in Abuja.

The confrontation led to an intervention from security operatives who tried to disperse the warring parties with teargas.

Speaking after the incident, Turaki said, “I want to call on President Trump. What is at stake is not just genocide against Christians; he should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat. I am calling all other developed nations, all advanced democracies, come and save Nigeria.”

Reacting, Onanuga stated that Turaki's statement will never be forgotten because it is high treason.

He shared on X, 'We shall never forget this video: the day a Nigerian politician committed high treason for calling for a foreign invasion of Nigeria, all because of intra-party dispute."
