Olukayode Ariwoola has retired from as the 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Ariwoola, who was born on August 22, 1954, retired on the same day he celebrated his 70th birthday.
He was elevated to the bench of the Supreme Court on November 22, 2011, and was appointed substantive Chief Justice on June 27, 2022.
Ariwoola was appointed after Justice Tanko Muhammad resigned from service during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The retiring Justice was confirmed as Chief Justice of Nigeria by the Senate on September 21, 2022.
There are speculations that Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun will replace Ariwoola as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria.
