An old video of former president Olusegun Obasanjo talking about alleged money laundering cases linked to the presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar has resurfaced.

The former head of state narrated how in June 2006, the United States of America wrote a letter asking that a list of people be investigated for corruption and money laundering which included Atiku Abubakar his vice president at that time.

According to him, the letter was sent to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, before been shown to him as the investigation could not be carried out without his approval.

Obasanjo said out of his good conscience, he could not ask his number two to be investigated although America wrote and asked that Atiku should be investigated.

He said;

"I received a letter from America in June 2006, listing a number of people to be investigated and Atiku was one of them. That letter went straight to EFCC, It was just shown to me because they will not be able to investigate my number two without me saying ok.

I could not in good conscience ask that my number two be investigated but the Americans wrote and asked among others that he should be investigated. I said, I could not do that. At that time politically I needed to carry him along."
