The name Professor Dora Akunyili is one that resonates with the fight against counterfeit drugs.

During her eight years serving as the Director General (DG) of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Akunyili was an integral part of the campaign that worked tirelessly and with significant success for the eradication of counterfeit drugs and unsafe food in Nigeria.

A pharmacist before becoming a governmental administrator, Akunyili was a senior lecturer and a consultant pharmacologist in the College of Medicine at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) until her appointment as director general

The success garnered over the years reduced the problem of drug and food control that had significant repercussions in Nigeria.

After the success of her job at NAFDAC, she was appointed the minister of the Federal Ministry of Information and Communication in Nigeria in 2008.

Benue State-born Anambra woman scooped over 500 awards and remained an enigma whose exceptional leadership transformed and saved lives.

Unfortunately, her life was cut short when she died at a specialist cancer hospital in India on June 7, 2014, after a two-year battle with uterine cancer.

Despite her demise, her words and actions continue to echo in the corridors of power and among Nigerians. Below is an old image of Dore Akunyili with her awards that has drawn applause from Nigerians on social media.

Mercio Samy: The true picture of womanhood. She came, saw, fought and conquer with much legacy. Her footprint is still making waves for her children, Africans and the world at large. May her soul continue resting in perfect peace AMEN.

Odey Susan Seember: I love dora and all what she represented as a woman. For me nafdac has been a shadow of what Dora's NAFDAC was, great woman. But I pray, wish and hope that she received the greatest award at her last breath "well-done my good and faithful servant". Pls let's not be angry, I think the writer means, in all your getting, get Christ. It is the one award you Will not leave behind when you die cos this is the award that will guarantee a peaceful eternity for you. Take it or leave it, hell and heaven are real and not all good people get there, but good people that are born again Jn. 3:3. Don't be offended, this is the simple truth.

Mary Oko: She is an inspiration to young people, while you acquire wealth,it is used to help others and still do the WILL of God.The earth was given to us to conquer in God's way. She did well but I want to also believe she lived according to God's will. MAY HER SOUL REST IN PEACE

Abodunrin Yetunde: She is gone but her deeds live on. She is one woman that I truly respected. Her integrity and dedication to work was second to none. This is the kind of legacy I want to leave too before I pass on. I really love and admire your footprint, the legend!
