The Ogun State Police Command has said the driver of the Lexus SUV in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case is currently in custody.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Thursday.
According to Babaseyi, an investigation is ongoing regarding the accident that saw Joshua hospitalised while two of his friends lost their lives.
He, however, failed to reveal the identity of the driver of the vehicle which ran into a stationary truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
Meanwhile, the governments of Lagos and Ogun states have once again commiserated with the families of the two young men - Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami - who tragically and unfortunately lost their lives in the road accident.
"We pray the Almighty grant the repose of their souls, whilst granting their families and loved ones the fortitude to bear this very sad and painful loss," the states said in a joint statement.
Anthony Joshua discharged from hospital
Anthony Joshua was discharged from hospital late Wednesday. Though heavy-hearted and full of emotions over the loss of his two close friends, he was deemed clinically fit to recuperate at home.
Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos on Wednesday to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu deeply appreciated the public concern and show of love and affection over the sad incident.
They also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for all the fatherly support he gave throughout the process.
"We also want to appreciate the team of Doctors and medical personnel at the Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, who attended to Anthony and those who sustained injuries. The quality of care and professionalism is truly commendable," the states said.
