Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has slammed Ogun State for battling bad roads, crime and cultism despite housing the headquarters of most mega churches in Nigeria.
According to Inibehe, he became aware of the situation in the state after a colleague informed him that the courts were on strike in the state.
In a post on X, the lawyer lamented that despite the industrial nature of the state and the number of prayers taking place in the mega churches in Ogun, the state remains hindered by poor governance.
He wrote, "One of our matters today is in Ogun State. One of our Associates got to Ogun State early this morning only to see that the courthouse is under lock and key due to industrial action. We didn’t know about the strike action.
"The road leading to the court is in a terrible state. We use Bolt most times to go for our cases in Ogun State because driving is just so stressful and problematic.
"Many industries and companies have their factories in Ogun State. Yet, basic services and infrastructures are not available for the people. What we see as governance in this country is embarrassing.
"By the way, if you need a perfect example that prayers, fasting and other spiritual activities cannot lead to the development of a country or society, Ogun State fits perfectly.
"Many Mega Churches in Nigeria have their headquarters and or Camp grounds in Ogun State. Ogun can be described as the headquarters of modern Pentecostalism in Nigeria. Yet, the State is battling with cultism, bad roads, bad governance, and high crime rates, especially skull minding or ritual killings.
"The problems of Nigeria are not spiritual."
