Protesters over hardship in Nigeria Protesters over hardship in Nigeria

Nigerians are taking to the streets to protest against bad governance, poverty, and the struggling economy.

This protest coincides with Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day anniversary today, October 1, 2024.

As protesters make their way through the streets of Ojota, a suburb of Lagos, they can be heard chanting “Tinubu Ole”.

Residents unhappy with the current state of the country, including high food costs, fuel price hikes, inflation, naira devaluation and other crises, are demanding a change in government policies.

Some protesters are accusing Tinubu of treason against 200 million people. They are holding placards listing the problems facing Nigerians and making of President Bola Tinubu.

This protest is happening at a time when the country is experiencing hardship, while the presidency is spending large sums of money on luxury items, despite numerous pleas that have been ignored.
