Valentine Chineto Ozigbo, a chieftain of the Labour Party says that the party's popularity in ahead of the elections is bigger than that of President Obama when he ran for the United States president in 2008.

Valentine who defected to the Labour Party from the Peoples Democratic Party in August 2022 after a fallout with the leadership of the party said that the movement by the supporters who are popularly called Obidients has never happened in the history of Nigeria.

He made the comment on Channels TV's political program, The Verdict 2023 on Monday, February 13.

"What is happening today has never happened in the history of Nigeria. We have never seen such a movement. Not even an Obama movement can compare with what is happening in Nigeria."

Obi's popularity among young Nigerians can be equated to that of Obama when he was elected president in 2008.

According to research by Pew Research, 66% of those under age 30 voted for Barack Obama making the disparity between young voters and other age groups larger than in any presidential election since exit polling began in 1972.

This pattern of votes, along with other evidence about the political leanings of young voters, suggests that a significant generational shift in political allegiance is occurring. This pattern has been building for several years and is underscored among voters this year.
