Ambassador-designate Reno Omokri has said former presidential candidate Peter Obi lied when he claimed US President Donald Trump called Nigeria a disgraced country because of President Bola Tinubu's certificate.

Obi had made the claim while speaking at his official declaration for the ADC presidential ticket in Akwa Ibom on Saturday.

Reacting, Omokri said Obi's claim is a lie because there is no certificate forgery by President Tinubu, a claim he once investigated by visiting Chicago State University, which Tinubu graduated from

He said this in a statement titled, 'Peter Obi Lied: Trump Did Not Call Nigeria Disgraced Because of President Tinubu's Certificate Scandal, Because There Is NO Certificate Scandal!'

Omokri said, "On Saturday, February 14, 2026, which was Valentine's Day, Mr Peter Obi launched his ill-fated ADC Presidential primary campaigning in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom capital, and said President Bola Tinubu 'forged a certificate.' He went on to further say, 'that's why the American president called Nigeria a ‘disgraced country.’

"First of all, President Trump called Nigeria a "Now disgraced country" because Biafra groups had paid a US lobby firm to damage Nigeria's image using propaganda. When they did this, Peter Obi remained silent, a silence that showed consent. Why?
Because when the Federal Government of Nigeria took necessary measures by countering the Biafran lobbying, Peter Obi immediately reacted and called the lobbying contract 'a waste'.

"Biafra lobbying was not a waste to him, but Nigeria's counter was squander-mania! Read between the lines.

"The same mouth President Trump used in calling Nigeria a disgraced country, based on Biafra propaganda, is the same mouth he used to cancel that and call our country and First Lady 'respected', just last month, but Peter did not mention that. He prefers the Biafran version!

"On the certificate issue, I take strong exception to Peter Obi's lies, because on Monday, September 19, 2022, I physically went to Chicago State University, where I was provided with incontrovertible documentary and photographic evidence that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a male Nigerian citizen bearing the exact likeness of the current Nigerian President, was admitted, attended, and graduated from their institution cum laude.

"I published my findings, and after the publication, multiple local and international media, including the British Broadcasting Corporation, which did an investigative story on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, corroborated my findings and established that President Tinubu did not in any way, shape, or form forge his certificate and that he was a bona fide graduate of Chicago State University.

"I am attaching a document from Chicago State University and urge anyone still in doubt, including Mr Peter Obi, to contact the university directly.

"It is therefore bewildering why Mr Peter Obi would go to Akwa-Ibom and lie to his supporters that the President forged his certificate.
Mr Peter Obi is a known liar who has told multiple lies, including that he reduced poverty in Anambra State.
However, the reality is that Peter Obi is the only Anambra Governor since 1999 under whom poverty increased.

"Please fact-check me: The poverty rate in Anambra was 41.4% in 2003, before you, Peter Obi, took office, and rose to 53.7% by 2009, during your governorship, a 29.7% increase.

"Mr Obi also lied that he studied at Harvard University. Actually, Peter Obi did not study at the prestigious university.

"He took a short course at Harvard that usually lasts two weeks. To claim that he "studied at Harvard" based on that is deceptive, misleading and manipulative. Peter Obi only has a first degree, a Second Class Lower in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Among all the Presidential candidates in the #NigerianElections2023, Peter Obi was the least educationally qualified.

"Also, on November 22, 2023, Peter Obi lied that he accompanied the President of America on a trip. That was a lie. Official records on the White House website indicate that Mr Obi has NEVER met any American President.

'Peter Obi also lied that his investment in SABMiller for Anambra State is now worth $100 million, when in fact the Obi government’s $12.24 million investment is now worth only $5.38 million, resulting in a loss.

"So, with such a record, it is not surprising that Peter Obi, as the 2027 election approaches, is returning to his normal mode of lying.
I urge members of the public to disregard Peter Obi's latest lie about the President and to expect even more lies from Mr Obi as his desperation to be President intensifies in the coming weeks and months."
