'Obi is a rock star in the South-East' - Dele Momodu warns Tinubu over 2027 regional math

Veteran journalist, publisher, and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has declared that former presidential candidate Peter Obi will easily defeat Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and President Bola Tinubu across the South-East in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Momodu stated that Obi's enduring popularity across the South-East and South-South regions makes him a formidable force that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot easily dismantle.

Specifically addressing Governor Soludo's support for President Tinubu's re-election, Momodu expressed absolute confidence in Obi's electoral dominance in his home state of Anambra.

"I can tell you something. Soludo is the same. I can bet my life on it that Peter Obi will humiliate and disgrace Soludo in Anambra state. I have no question about that," Momodu asserted. "Peter Obi is a rock star. Where he comes from, especially in the South-East and the South-South."

While reiterating his personal support for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar under the ADC, Momodu cautioned that President Tinubu faces a complex path to victory if the opposition unifies and Obi maintains his regional stronghold.

"The scenario is different this time. Peter Obi will humiliate Tinubu and all his supporters in the South-East and some parts of the South-South. And that’s dangerous for Tinubu," he noted. "For Tinubu to win, he needs to lock down all the three regions in the South, and he now has to go and struggle in the North."

Momodu emphasized that an alliance among major opposition figures remains the most viable strategy to challenge the ruling party effectively in 2027.
