Obi has character and merit - Obasanjo reveals who he supports in 2023

As the preparation for the 2023 general elections hots up, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has thrown his weight behind Peter Obi.

Peter Obi is the Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

Obasanjo who with Afenifere leader Chief Ayo Adebanjo supports the Obi-Datti candidature also added that he and Adebanjo stood for the same view.

While noting that he always backs a candidate with merit, he added that as a Nigerian who has sacrificed a lot for the country, he always watched out for a leader who has character.

According to him, "What I believe and what I believe that chief Ayo Adebanjo believes is not sectional, is not religious. It is Nigeria.
When i go out and people say we thank you, I say what are you thanking me for and i tell them please stop thanking me Why should you be thanking me.

"I believe in equity. I believe in justice. I believe in one Nigeria. I have shed my blood for this country. I have gone to prison for this country. So what are you going to frighten me or threaten me with?

"The only thing that my senior brother hasn't done is he hasn't shed his blood. He has gone to prison. Well, we will love that as that.

"The problem we have in our front and in our hands now is national and for me, the first thing that is important in a leader is character.

"The problem we have had over the years is that we don't have a leader who has the right type of character that they should be entrusted with the leadership role.

"So if I put my finger on anything or for anybody is because comparing one to another I see that there is merit that will be of benefit to Nigeria and I believe that Chief Ayo Adebanjo stands for thesame view."
