Obaseki commissions borehole, other vital coronavirus prevention facilities

Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, yesterday, commissioned a borehole and other COVID-19 prevention facilities donated to three secondary schools in the state by the Victims Support Fund (VSF), a non-government organisation funded by Gen. Theophilus Y. Danjuma.

The supplies and facilities comprise a solar-powered borehole, four wash stations, 2,000 pieces of reusable face masks, 20 litres of hand sanitisers, 120 bottles of 500ml hand wash liquid and five cartons of bleach for each school. 

The First Lady commended the VSF, Gen. Danjuma and his wife, Senator Daisy Danjuma, for their immense support throughout the pandemic, acknowledging the far-reaching impact of their sustainable community support projects.
Earlier, the Chairperson of VSF Task Force on COVID-19, Mrs Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, emphasised the necessity of water and the futility of hygiene and sanitary advocacies without an adequate supply of water.

“This is just our own way of ensuring that we consolidate and complement the efforts of the Edo State Government in combating and containment of the virus, especially because we know that Governor Godwin Obaseki and yourself have been doing remarkable work in ensuring that we reduce the spread of coronavirus in the state.”

In her remark, the Principal of the Anglican Girls Grammar School (AGGS), Mrs Veronica Egbon, said: “When these items are put into good use, the fear of COVID-19 will become a thing of the past in AGGS.”

Meanwhile, the state House of Assembly has urged Ministerial Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure strict execution of this year’s budgetary provisions to complement the government’s effort by justifying investments in various areas of development.

Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Infrastructure, Mr Francis Okiye, stated this during a legislative oversight visit to the ministry and parastatals under it on Sapele Road, Benin City, adding that the Committee embarked on the legislative oversight to ascertain the level of implementation of the budgetary provisions by the MDAs.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ferguson Enabulele, explained that many ongoing projects were continued from last year’s budget, with over 30 road projects across the state completed.

At the end of the visit, Okiye assured that the Assembly would give its support where needed.
