Godwin Obaseki has given approval for the reopening of primary and secondary schools in Edo state

The approval was contained in a statement issued by the governor through the state ministry of education

Obaseki said the 2020/2021 academic session will kickstart on Monday, September 28, amid strict Covid-19 guidelines

Edo newly reelected governor, Godwin Obaseki, has approved the reopening of all primary and secondary schools in the state.

The governor announced the reopening through a statement by his commissioner for education, Jimoh Ijegbai, who said the 2020/2021 academic session will kickstart on Monday, September 28.

He, however, directed that JSS 1-3 students should resume classes between 8am and 11am, while the SSS 1-3 students enter classes between 12pm and 3pm.

According to him, this will help curb the Covid-19 infection in the state in line with the safety protocols of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“School Heads and Proprietors are to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 safety protocol guidelines and collect copies of the 2020/21 academic calendar from the office of the Chief Inspectors of Education in the 18 Local Government Areas," part of the statement read.

In a related development, Oyo state government also directed the reopening of all tertiary institutions in the state for regular academic activities from Monday, September 28.

Governor Seyi Makinde gave the directive on Tuesday, September 15, in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, with the order coming despite the presence of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Conveying Makinde's directive, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, commissioner for education, science, and technology, announced that necessary Covid-19 guidelines must be put in place for safe reopening.
