Northerners held key security, defence positions for 8 years with no results - Shehu Sani

A former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has said that although the northerners held several key security positions in the past administration, they yielded zero results.

He stated that the former President Muhammadu Buhari-led government wasted trillions of Naira on insecurity.

His said this amid the upset in Tudun Biri, after a military drone struck and killed some villagers on Sunday while they were celebrating the Maulud festival.

According to Sani, despite the failures of the past security chiefs, Buhari continued to extend their tenure in office.

Speaking on the back of the Northern Elders Forum, remarks about the security situation in the region, he noted that they NEF have the right to criticize President Bola Tinubu over the insecurity issues.

On X, Sani wrote: “Northern Leaders have the constitutional right to criticize the President and hold him to account on the security situation in the North; but it’s too early to forget how all the key security and Defence positions in country were held by Northerners for eight years but failed to end the scourge of killings and kidnappings in the north. Trillions wasted with no result, and the then President kept extending their tenure in office.”

Following the incident that occurred in Tudun Biri, a chieftain of the NEF, Usman Yusuf, said Tinubu’s words, deeds and body language have shown that he’s not interested in security and that he is more focused on the economy, where there is money.

“Our President and Commander-in-Chief, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, from his words, deeds, and body language, is not interested in security. All he’s interested in is the economy, where the money is, and he’s planted his people. Security, banditry, and others appear irritant to him.

“We don’t see the president hands-on with our security. Our military is not supervised by civilian authority; they’ve gone rogue, dropping bombs on our people, and they’re not answerable to anybody.”
