'No single one of our demands have been met' - Resident doctors threaten protest Wednesday

Emeka Orji Emeka Orji

The President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr Emeka Orji has revealed that he is taking to the streets with his fellow resident doctors to protest against the Tinubu administration for meeting the demands of the association.

According to the Mr Orji the association will embark on the protest on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

In an interview with Channels TV, Orji disclosed that the resident doctors are working under terrible conditions, and all they demanded was a listening government who will work with them to provide all that is necessary in order to create better worker working conditions for them.

Orji said: "We want to thank the Speaker of the House of Representatives for his efforts. We also thank the Secretary to the government of the federation, and indeed we thank all government officials who have in one way or the other tried to intervene in this matter.

"But certainly we are still where we are. The demands that are made ... the question is up till now, how come no single one of them are met?"

He added that since a lot of nurses and doctors have travelled abroad in search of greener pastures, the resident doctors have been overworked and some have found themselves breaking down as a result.

He said: "Nigerians will agree with us that our hospitals are massively depleted. We do not have the doctors and nurses to take care of Nigerians. Resident doctors continue to be overworked and breaking down".
