Former Biafran rebel, Simon Ekpa, has on Thursday, February 23, been arrested by Finnish officials few days after making threats to thwart the forthcoming elections.

He was reportedly taken into custody by unmarked police officers just before he was scheduled to speak with a filmmaker at his house in Lahti, southern Finland.

Ekpa has at the time of his arrest, escalated his efforts to frustrate the Nigerian presidential elections set for Saturday, February 25.

He rose to prominence as the movement's de facto leader after IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu was kidnapped by Nigerian authorities in 2021.

He declared a 'sit-at-home' order for residents in Nigeria's South-East warning them to avoid voting or face deadly repercussions.

The news of Ekpa's arrest received a lot of attention on social media as people rejoiced that voters in the South-East can head to the polls without being intimidated or fearful.
