No evidence of genocide in Nigeria – ADC backs FG

The newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) has backed President Bola Tinubu against claims by foreign governments of the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, there is no evidence of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

He made this known on Tuesday, November 4, in an interview on Channels TV.

“I cannot say there is evidence of genocide and from what we have seen we cannot describe what is going on as genocide," he said.

“The question is not about how the Americans are framing it. The question is that people are being killed in Nigeria and we have the opportunity to let the Americans know that there’s no genocide going on in Nigeria.”

His comments follow threats by US President Donald Trump of military action should he alleged persecution persist. Trump also designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over allegations of Christian genocide.

Reports also indicate that Trump has directed the U.S. Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”
