The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) of the 19 Northern states has debunked reports claiming that a girl who converted from Islam to Christianity is facing trial at the Sharia court in Zamfara State.

In a statement made available to MyNigeria, the CAN General Secretary, Elder Sunday Oibe, said he came to the conclusion after frantic effort in getting to the root of the matter.

According to Olbe, there was nobody to authenticate the news trending on social media, which identified the girl to be one Zainab Muhamadu.

"However, the Zamfara state government debunked the news as fake. In view of the clarification from the state government, this matter should be put to rest while we wish to encourage ourselves to keep praying for the protection of Christians in Nigeria and especially, Northern Nigeria in particular," he said.
