Nnamdi Kanu to remain in DSS custody as Appeal Court takes giant step

The appeal court in Abuja has stayed the execution of its judgment that the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, from detention.

On Friday, October 28, the appellate court granted the application of the federal government brought before it to stay of execution of the judgment till the hearing and determination of the case it filed before the supreme court, Vanguard reported.

This means that Kanu will remain in the Kanu will not be released by the Department of State Service (DSS) until the decision of the supreme court.

The court then ordered the federal government to transmit the record of the appeal and the verdict on the matter to the supreme court within 7 days.

The three-man panel led by Justice Haruna Tsanami posited that this would enable the apex court to determine the matter on time.

Recalled that the appellate court on Monday, October 24, upheld the ruling on the judgment that quashed the 15-count terrorism charge the federal government had preferred against Kanu.

Recall that Kanu is a self-styled leader of IPOB that has been in detention since 2017 and has been to court on several occasions.
