The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the 14th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has revealed the reason politicians get away with corruption and other illegal things in the country.

According to him, Nigerians take too much rubbish and are too afraid to hold those in office to account.

Speaking at an event on Tuesday, Sanusi noted that should Nigerians continue this way, there would be no nation left for the coming generation.

The former CBN Governor advised the youth not to be afraid and get outside their comfort zone and take back their country.

He noted that Nigerians should not listen to people urging them to travel out of the country for greener pastures but take hold of it and build it.

Sanusi said;

"We cannot be intimidated by somebody because you are president or governor and we cannot tell you that you're wrong.

Because I choose not to go into politics does not make me a subordinate human being and this is what we all have to learn as Nigerians, We take too much rubbish and we are too afraid, too much in our comfort zone and by the time this guys finish with us our children will not have a nation.

This is the real challenge that we face. How do we stand up, how do you retrieve our nation, how do we go back to that vision that we have. How do we give our children the opportunities that we have had and even better and this is a question that each of us must take with us.

The only to do it, is if you are not in politics, you must hold those in politics to account. it is not a comfortable situation to be in. When people are incompetent and they don't like you, you wear their dislike as a batch of honour.

We must get outside our comfort zone and that is the only thing that will change this country. To young people, do not fear, this is your country, this is your future, take hold of it, work for it, build it. Don't let anyone tell you to run away because, this is your country," Sanusi said.
