Nigerians tackle Gov Godwin Obaseki for holding a ceremony to commission street lights

The Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki recently held an event to commission the newly installed street lights in some part of the state.

Taking to his Twitter page to share photos of the ceremony, Obaseki hinted that he is committed to the people of Edo state as plans are on the way to extend the projects to other parts including; Iguoriahki, Igwuobazuwa and Okada respectively.

He wrote;

"With the commissioning of a 3km streetlights project along Siluko Rd and another 3.3km streetlights along Sapele Rd, in Egor and Ikpoba-Okha LGAs respectively, we have completed the construction of 40km out of the 200km of street lights projects around the greater Benin area.

We remain committed to our people that we must light up Edo, and plan on extending the project to cover Iguoriahki, Igwuobazuwa and Okada within the next two years."

The Edo state Governor, however, received backlash from Nigerians who took to Twitter to share their displeasure at the state for holding a ceremony to commission street lights.

El-rufai, Wike, Sanwo-Olu etc. have one time or the other lit up hundreds of kilometers of roads in their different states, never had anyone commissioned it cus they have tangible other projects to show the world. See my own governor, celebrate streetlights, there is God o!!!????

Omo a whole governor is celebrating street light as an achievement in 2022 in oil rich state something isn't adding up. Same region Wike makes this kind of project a joke.

E tell you say e no know. Na wetin baba fit afford e take do streetlights. E don use the remaining budget rent chairs ???? and tents ⛺️. People go sha sit for commissioning and sun fit comot for night, anything fit happen. Na Edo state
