Nigerians slams Pastor Jerry Eze, Nathaniel Bassey for staying silent on killing of Christians

Prominent Nigerian pastors Jerry Uchechukwu Eze, founder of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD), and gospel artiste Nathaniel Bassey, convener of the Hallelujah Challenge, are currently facing backlash from Nigerians over their silence on the increasing killings of Christians across the country.

The outrage follows recent reports of violence targeting Christian communities, which drew international attention after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to send troops to Nigeria to intervene.

While the situation has sparked widespread debate, some Nigerians have accused influential pastors of not speaking out against the attacks.

On social media, critics singled out Pastor Eze and Nathaniel Bassey, alleging that despite their massive followings and powerful platforms, they have failed to use their voices to condemn the killings or demand justice.

Several users described the clerics as “spiritual influencers” who are more focused on publicity and popularity than social responsibility. Some even labeled them “charlatans,” questioning the sincerity behind their public acts of charity, such as distributing vehicles and tricycles to followers.

According to critics, true leadership should involve using one’s influence to advocate for justice and compassion, especially in moments of national crisis.

The criticism continues to gain momentum online, with Nigerians demanding that the pastors take a firm stance and speak out against the ongoing persecution of Christians.
