Nigerians have heavily criticised Nollywood figures, including Kunle Afolayan, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Ayo Adesanya, and Remi Surutu after they unveiled a pro-government group backing Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The group, named “Eko 57 Movement,” was launched in Lagos and is being coordinated by actor Lege Miami.
The move has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians accusing the celebrities of ignoring the country’s economic struggles, including rising fuel prices, poor electricity supply, insecurity, and the high cost of living.
Several netizens also warned the actors not to seek public sympathy in the future, especially in times of personal need, while others argued that electoral reforms—not political campaigns—should be the nation’s priority.
The backlash highlights growing public frustration as economic hardship continues to bite, with many Nigerians questioning the role of celebrities in political advocacy during difficult times.

@Jaymon68316721___"The same man who is singing g on your mandate 'We shall stand' the one on black. last week he was complaining bitterly about the increase in fuel prices and diesel. Chai, this country will not get better anytime soon, God forbid"
@NoldLawal___"We are actually funny in this country to be honest. A government stripped us off all subsidies, floated the currency, couldn't implement 2years budget back to back and plunged the nation into abject poverty.
That is the funds they are using to buy rice and people to support them."
@AustinINstate___"The budgets are being share to party loyalists. there are people in this country they don’t have job but they can ride any car and house just belong to party wey Dey rule or one of your family member. Una think say those budget Dey go where national assembly announced to you.
So why light no Dey Nigeria ?🇳🇬"
@TateMichael1___"These Yorubahood are always funny. Please, nobody should come after 2027 on TV to say they got nothing from the government and are disappointed after supporting him."
@skood009___"They can even create an “Osa Bat team” and still lose. It shows they are worried and scared. Go to Facebook and see how people are openly cursing them. Explaining to Nigerians why they remain in poverty will be very difficult. It will be hard to justify how their lives have been reduced to destitution despite the billions constantly being spent and seen moving around."
@_ffen___"The fact that he did not achieve anything is even the main problem"
So, they have flagged off another support group for Tinubu, called the Eko57.

If you ever wondered why Tinubu’s government failed to implement its budgets since 2024 and has had to roll them over to the following years, these groups are part of the reasons.
