Nigerians have taken to the streets to lament their displeasure with the economic situation in the country.
The protest is currently ongoing in several states as Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Day today.
Protesters have voiced concerns about the government’s failure to address their demands. This comes as the country is facing various economic challenges, including fuel price hikes, high food costs, inflation, naira devaluation and other crises.
In an effort to push for government action, residents embarked on a nationwide protest to highlight the hardships faced by Nigerians.
One protester in Abuja urged fellow citizens to rise up, stating that the government does not care about its people.
He said, “Nigerians if you will not rise up, time go pass. This government does not give a hoot about us. It is high time we come together in our millions and let this one percent know this country is ours.”
In videos circulating online, protesters were seen fleeing for safety as police fired teargas to disperse the crowd.
The protesters carried placards and the Nigerian flag, with some singing the old national anthem.
