Nigerians mock Wike over Tinubu's 'I owe you nothing' comment

Reactions trail President-elect Bola Tinubu’s response to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike over refunds of project undertaken in his state.

On Wednesday, May 3, Tinubu visited Rivers state on invitation from Wike to commission some state projects constructed by his government.

During his speech, BAT applauded Wike for his efforts in ensuring the construction of the infrastructures in his state and told him that he owes him nothing with regards to the demand he made for a refund of money used in undertaking the projects.

Tinubu said that just like any other governor, he will need to lobby him after he is sworn-in as President on May 29.

“The 12 flyovers, and the demand you made for the refund, I owe you nothing, its your road, you've can't chuckle me, and make a demand, you are the one living on this road, I commend your effort, you have to lobby me to collect.”

He also praised Wike for his support towards his victory at the 2023 presidential election. "If you talk about character, you can say Your Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike you are very dependable.

"I am a very happy man, happy because I went through a very gruesome campaign, fought hard, supported by many of you and I won fair and square. Nyesom I say thank you for your contribution o my victory, I wouldn't have done it without some structural support as not describable in a flyover. He did not choose to serve his own interest, not about him, but rather the interest of the nation, you promoted unity, fairness, you championed justice, thank you.

"In His Excellency, Governor Wike, I see a man of principle. He took a principled stand that the presidency should be returned to the South; and he had the courage to stand by his convictions, not minding whose ox was gored.

"He is, indeed, a man of great integrity. He did not choose to serve his own interests, rather, the interests of the nation and the people of Rivers State. I thank him for his selfless leadership."

However, since videos of Tinubu telling Wike he owes him nothing, Nigerians have taken to social media to share their thoughts;
