A debate has erupted on social media as Nigerians banter on whether or not genetic testing popularly known as DNA test should be banned in the country.

This began after a lady with the user name Benita on X narrated how her neighbour discovered he was not the father of his two girls whom he had trained up till the university.

She wrote; "The Nigerian government should please cancel the conduct of the DNA test. That shit has done a whole lot of harm than good. My neighbour found out yesterday that he is not the father of his two girls. Girls he already trained to university level. The baba wan mad."

Another X user, named Nnekanwa, responded saying that people who seek DNA tests should be blamed.

She wrote; "Blame people going for the DNA. They will eventually see that thing dem dey find. Why not allow sleeping dogs to lie? Child you have already loved and cherished, you will scatter everything because of man made DNA. Make una dey play.”

Benita in response said DNA tests have done more harm to people's mental health. She wrote; “Seriously, the harm it causes on mental health is just too much.”

Other social media users have since joined the debate as some say the DNA test should be made free for any considering it.

@OBlezzings: Blaming DNA test for exposing infidelity instead blaming the cheating partner who brought another man's child to the house

@Fiolakemi: I honestly feel DNA test should be made compulsory before both couples leave the hospital because, sometimes it isn’t the woman carrying another man’s child but because some children get switched at birth.

@kekere02: Ban wetin?they should make it free sef…awon werey ole asewo

@engrpopey: If you don't do a DNA test after the birth of your child you deserve whatever you find in the future.

@UbyBenson: DNA should even be compulsory, its fraud. Unfaithful woman are now directing the affairs of women because FAITHFUL women have kept quiet for too long.

The other day olosho dressed women had the effrontery to drag a decently dress woman for not exposing her body.

@AGINAS: DNA test should be carried away immediately at childbirth even before paying for the hospital bill.

@AnyBody_007: Which kind opinion be this. Lol “man made dna”? That opinion is not opinioning. Advice your gender to stop adultery and stop giving a pregnancy to someone else all because they don’t have the mind to settle for someone who own it cause of status or rejection

@patootiie_: they should just make it free

@temi_rossie_: It’s good to do the DNA early, cos if you do it when the child is grown, and you find out that the child isn’t yours, it’ll hurt more, cos a bond has been created

@_bukason: The Government should make DNA test compulsory from birth and women who lie about paternity should be prosecuted. How about that?

@itsleeswhag: Ban? I think what she should say is that the government should make DNA test free at child birth so that nobody will deceive anybody.
