Nigerians residing in Ghana will be able to register for the National Identification Number (NIN) from the host country without leaving its borders.

This follows a partnership between OAR College of Health and Technology Ltd owned by Dr Adeyemi Odebunmi and Salsabel Star Ltd, Ghana that sort to bring the service close to citizens of all ages. The service which will be the first of its kind for a project of this magnitude and will be made accessible to Nigerians across Ghana’s sixteen regions.

Stakeholders led by All Nigerian Community (ANC) Ag President, Chief Dr. Bayo Ashaolu, General Secretary, Hon Suleman Seriki Umar and Assistant General Secretary, Chief Bolanle Akintola and other national executives were present at the launch of the onboarding process at a ceremony at SID Apartment, Opposite King of King's International School, Blohum street, Dzorwulu, Accra on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

Anchored by Chief Moses Owopade the event was also attended by other dignitaries from several Nigerian communities in Ghana including Chief Jose Mayowa Alaaye 1 of Dome-Kwabenya.

Launched in 2007 after the passing of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act, Nigeria's national identification program is arguably the largest in Africa.

Fondly called NIN, it is a set of numbers assigned to an individual upon successful enrolment. Enrolment consists of the recording of an individual’s demographic data and capture of the ten (10) fingerprints, head-to-shoulder facial picture and digital signature, which are all used to cross-check existing data in the National Identity Database to confirm that there is no previous entry of the same data.

Dr. Ojifinni Abiodun said “registration exercise will be done in both regular and premium services in our centers and in the comfort of people's homes, offices, worship, and recreational centers on request. NIN slips will be dispatched to applicants upon approval.”

“Other related services are available for applicants as needs arise. This includes data modifications, verification, validation of NIN, etc.”

He added: “We sincerely hope to deliver seamless enrolment service to our people over the period. We appreciate the cooperation of Nigerians and Ghanaians alike for the welcome accorded us since our arrival in the country. May God continue to bles you all!”

NIN is necessary for the issuance/renewal of international passport, issuance/renewal of Driver's license, opening bank accounts/upgrade of existing ones and BVN, property title documents, registration for exams like JAMB/WAEC/GCE, purchase/registration of SIM cards and so many more.

The Director General of the National Identity Management Commission,  NIMC Engr. Aliyu Aziz in September 16 said the Commission has so far captured 89 million persons in the ongoing nationwide National Identity Number, NIN enrolment.

The DG disclosed this at a press conference in commemoration of the 4th Identity Day at the Board Room of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), in Abuja.

This he said represents 82 million additions to the 7million he met when he assumed office in November, 2015.
