Delhi Police arrested a Nigerian national allegedly involved in the supply of amphetamine in the national capital and recovered narcotics worth around Rs 3 lakh from his possession in Dwarka, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as 42-year-old Cyracus Ifeanyi Onyekaonwu, a resident of Anambra State, Nigeria, was also found to be illegally staying in India without a valid visa or passport.
Police seized 14 grams of high-grade amphetamine—classified as an intermediate quantity under the NDPS Act—along with a scooter allegedly used for drug deliveries.
According to police, the arrest was made under the recently launched anti-drug campaign “Nashe Par Lagaam, Desh Ko Salaam”, aimed at intensifying action against drug traffickers and curbing substance abuse in Delhi.
Acting on specific intelligence received on Monday, the Anti-Narcotics Cell learned that the accused would arrive in the Anand Vihar area of Uttam Nagar to deliver a consignment of amphetamine.
A raiding team was formed immediately, and the suspect was apprehended while allegedly on his way to deliver the drugs. During search, police recovered 14 grams of amphetamine, and the scooter allegedly used in the drug trade was also seized.
Police said the accused had recently secured bail in a 2022 case registered under the NDPS Act and the Foreigners Act at Dwarka North Police Station.
Following his release, he allegedly resumed involvement in narcotics trafficking. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Uttam Nagar Police Station.
Police officials said they are now examining the accused’s network, supply chain, and possible links with other drug traffickers operating in Delhi and adjoining areas.
