A 33-year-old Nigerian tech recruiter, Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, also known as Boon, who is based in Canada has been arrested and charged by Canadian authorities over alleged human trafficking and sexual offences.

The Hamilton Police Service said Tomiwa was arrested after he voluntarily turned himself in, hours after he was declared wanted. He is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing.

Police said Tomiwa, who identifies himself as a tech recruiter at TEKsystems on LinkedIn, is from Belleville and faces charges of tr@fficking in persons, procuring for s+xual services, material benefit from tr@fficking of persons and withholding documents.

“Hamilton Police have arrested Ebunoluwa Tomiwa after he turned himself into Police earlier this morning. Tomiwa will be appearing in court for a bail hearing,” the police said.

Investigators said they believe there may be additional victims and urged anyone with information or anyone who believes they have been victimised to come forward.

The development comes after reports of other Nigerians facing criminal charges in Canada.
