Nigerian fans have made a U-turn, calling on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to shop for another head coach for the Super Eagles.

After leading them to a 2-1 win over Ghana four days earlier, Finidi George could only watch as his team fell apart against the Eagles of Mali.

Nigeria played both friendlies ahead of the final preparations for the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which return in June.

After their fine performance against the Black Stars, the Super Eagles were awful against the Eagles of Mali inside the Stade de Marrakech.

The opening goal came as early as the 18th minute when El Bilal Toure tucked one home to put his side ahead.


Nigeria missed a number of chances in the second half, including a one-on-one for Cyriel Dessers, who rifled his effort into the sky, Sporting News reports.

With three minutes left on the clock, Kamoury Doumbia sealed the win for Mali when he made it 2-0.

Nigerian fans want Finidi George out

After the game, Nigerians seemed united against Finidi.

The former Super Eagles star was appointed as the team's interim coach after Jose Peseiro's departure but many are now calling on the NFF to shop for another foreign coach.

"We have over-hyped some players in Super Eagles even when their clubs have declared them useless. And as for Finidi, thank goodness this is happening now, he should quietly go and continue his Westernhof in Enyimba FC. This his football is pure nonsense."
