Yemi Mobolade, a Nigerian-American, has made history by becoming Colorado Springs’ first elected black mayor in El Paso County, Texas, United States.

Simon Ateba, a famous US journalist, disclosed this on Wednesday through his official Twitter handle.

Ateba stressed that Nigeria-born Mobolade ran as an independent candidate, meaning he is neither a Republican nor a Democrat.

“Nigerian-American Yemi Mobolade Makes History as Colorado Springs’ First Elected Black Mayor, Breaking a 45-Year Streak Unaffiliated with the Republican Party. The election outcome sent shockwaves through Colorado Springs, known for its conservative leanings. Mobolade’s triumph marks a seismic political shift, as he becomes the first mayor in 45 years not affiliated with the Republican Party. He is an independent who does not identify with the Democratic or Republican Party,” he wrote.
