Nigeria's poliitical space too hostile for a female president - Bisi Fayemi

Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Bisi Fayemi has stated that it will be impossible to have a female president in the country.

According to her, this is as a result of the hostile political environment currently in place.

She made this known at an event to mark this year's World Book Day, organised by Above Whispers Media Foundation in collaboration with Association of Nigeria Authors (ANA) signposting the first public book reading of her latest book titled, ‘Where Is Your Wrapper?’.

Madam Fayemi noted that although the country is ready to be governed by a woman, the current operating system might hinder this visualisation coming to light.

Speaking on the issue of feminism, Madam Fayemi said that women of today should not misconstrue the ideology to mean fighting for women blindly.

In her view, she would only defend and promote women who value dignity, self-respect and walk on the path of truthfulness, adding that feminism is gradually gaining traction in Nigeria owing to the belief that “women should have rights, should not be battered, be educated, economically self dependent and protected. I can defend women who are being battered by their husbands, women who are well mannered, but I can’t defend those who are ill mannered and rude".
