Nigeria’s military, police one of the best globally – Apostle Suleman

Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has praised Nigeria’s security agencies for their efforts in combating insecurity.

The cleric also called on the government to take decisive steps against sponsors of terrorism and address the country’s worsening security challenges.

Speaking during a church service, Suleman described members of the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies as among the best he has encountered globally, arguing that they often operate under difficult circumstances despite risking their lives to protect citizens.

According to the cleric, Nigeria’s security personnel deserve greater support and encouragement rather than constant criticism.

“When it comes to military, Nigerian military, they are one of the best,” Suleman said.

“If not those men (soldiers), what would have happened? The soldiers in Nigeria are risking their life.”

He, however, lamented situations where security operatives allegedly face interference after making arrests, saying such actions undermine morale and weaken the fight against terrorism.

“But how do you continue when a military man catches a terrorist and gets a phone call? You are demoralizing them,” he said.

Suleman also defended the police and the DSS, insisting that many of their operations go unnoticed by the public because of the sensitive nature of their work.

“Our police, one of the best. If you come to the DSS, you have no idea,” he said.

“You know how many people they track every day and they pick them quietly. You expect them to tell you they should come and post it?”

The cleric commended the current leadership of the DSS, stating that efforts to improve officers’ welfare and morale had strengthened the agency’s capacity to confront security threats.

Addressing the country’s security crisis, Suleman outlined what he described as four key recommendations for government authorities.

First, he advocated a nationwide ban on open grazing, arguing that livestock owners should operate ranches instead of moving cattle across communities.

“Ban open grazing. Ranch your cattles. If you want to train your cattle, get a place and train them. Don’t move them about. Cattle business is private business. It’s not government business,” he said.

He also urged authorities to identify and prosecute individuals financing criminal groups.

“Go after the sponsors. Who empowered them? Go after the sponsors,” Suleman said.

The preacher further called on political leaders to place security above political activities, insisting that efforts should be concentrated on tackling insurgency and violent crimes.

“This is not the time for politics. Leave every political meeting now and go after these people,” he said.

Suleman also challenged leaders who believe they are unable to resolve the country’s security challenges to step aside.

“If you say that it didn’t start with you, you met insecurity, you are admitting that you can’t fix it. Leave. Let somebody else come,” he said.
