Nigeria police officers run over young man with a car in Edo State

A video is making rounds of a police officer running over a young man in Ekpoma, Edo state, who had laid across the road in an attempt to prevent the policeman from driving away with his phone and other items.

According to eyewitnesses as shared by Twitter user, Rinu Oduala, the police officers accosted the young man to check his mobile phone but refused.

Another eyewitness claim, the man was driving without a number plate and when approached, he refused to stop. It was said that the police officers chased him, beat him up, tore his clothes and seized his phone.

The officers also handcuffed him, and attempted to take him to the station when the residents intervened.

In an attempt to flee the scene, the residents stopped them and ordered that they uncuff the young man before leaving.

The police officer who were unperturbed by the crowd gathered around them while trying to flee, run over the young man who screamed out of pain.

Several residents at the scene tried to stop the police officers but to no avail.

The young man was said to have sustained injuries due to the incident.

Nigerians are therefore, calling on the Inspector General of Police, IGP to investigate and prosecute the police officers involved.
