Nigeria must not break, nobody has anything to gain - Bishop Kukah warns

The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has advised Nigerians to desist from the act of violence and embrace peace.

According to him, nobody stands to gain anything if the country breaks up as a result of ethnic violence.

He noted that Nigerians have the right to demand the government to protect their lives and properties as well as an enabling environment for them to succeed.

Kukah made these statements during a virtual meeting with academic historian, Toyin Falola, on Sunday, March 7, 2021.

"This 923,768 km that Lugard gave us binds us together. All of us are now global citizens but I know all of us are still nostalgic about this country.

"It is not going to remain like this and let none of us be under any illusion that anybody stands to gain anything if this country breaks up, nobody is interested in this country breaking up but the point is that who we were yesterday is no longer who we are today," he said.
